Mild days, cosy nights… Get ready for a laid-back autumn stay in the Wiltshire countryside – peaceful, yet close enough to nearby adventures and city culture. Think snug yet spacious lakeside lodges, heavenly hot tubs beneath the stars, glamping chic of shepherd’s huts and a tranquil setting close to nature.

At Fairwood Lakes, the season of mists of mellow fruitfulness sets a beautiful backdrop for a gorgeous getaway – whether you’re looking for a mid-week romantic retreat for two, or a long weekend with little ones in tow.

Here are just a few of our favourite things that we, and our guests, love about autumn at Fairwood Lakes:

All is Calm

The busy summer season has ended and children have returned to school, leaving the luxury of quiet time in and around the park. Order a latte and lounge on the sun deck with a good book on warm autumn days, or sit back on the veranda of your lodge to slow the pace with lakeside views and the gentle sound of nature flying – and swimming – by.

Dip into Luxury

There’s nothing quite like a cool, crisp autumn evening spent under the stars in the welcoming waters of your private hot tub. Turn on the jets, take a dip and lay back in the autumnal air. You may even hear the hoot of our nearby owls!

Explore the Great Outdoors

We love our local landscape here in the heart of Wiltshire, and autumn is the perfect season for cycling or walking to explore our nearby beauty spots. There are plenty of cycling routes suitable for all abilities, including the Longleat Estate and traffic-free options in Bradford-on-Avon just a short drive away, or you can cycle straight from Fairwood Lakes along country lanes to discover the local area at leisure. If you prefer to hike than take a bike, we can recommend some impressive walks across Wiltshire’s finest areas. One of the most popular is Cley Hill with its picture-perfect panorama from the peak, taking in views across Wiltshire and Somerset. Other walks include Heaven’s Gate near Longleat, Shearwater Lake and Westbury White Horse.

Step into the City

Head from your private hot tub at Fairwood Lakes to the public hot springs of Bath, the original wellbeing destination founded by the Romans as a thermal spa. Just a 20-minute drive away, Bath can also be reached easily from Fairwood Lakes by train in just over 10 minutes from nearby Dilton Marsh or Westbury stations. Without the heat and crowds of the summer, Bath is a delightful place to visit in cooler autumn days with its city tours, stunning Abbey, boutiques and high street stores, Roman Baths and interesting museums to delve into a little culture during your West Country break.
